Back at Work

My year back at work is back in full swing. It's a year of comforting stability, mixed with just enough surprising changes to make the year challenging and exciting. I have been lucky enough to keep my own desk in my own office, doing the same work, at the same site. This is huge at my work place. I have never done the same thing twice. It's quite comforting not having to learn something new, with no time to learn it... just do it.
I have also been given two new exciting roles. One having to do with technology (something I'm passionate about it my own way), and the other with numbers (also a nerdy love of mine). They both have their challenges, but I think will be quite rewarding. The technology side of things is interesting in an industry where technology is  sooooo important, and yet not important enough to spend any money on. The numbers job on the other hand has money thrown at it left right and centre, but no time to use the money well.

On a lighter note, the usual year beginning social events have taken place. The clients and staff soccer challenge (which last year was a cricket match) saw me sporting the same war stripes as last year.

The staff river float down the Murray was again a great hit, but a particular hit for me, having finally (after over 20 years) overcome my fear of water. That's right - this was my first year to actually get in a kayak and paddle down the river. In fact, I was so excited by my new found love of water that I got in and swam, towing my canoe (yes I'm very good at using correct terminology) most of the way.

But, the most exciting change this year? I'm working AND living life! I know, I didn't realise it was possible. But I've just decided that I'm not going to think about work every second of the day (and maybe I've found a few more exciting things to think about).
Despite a lot of movie watching, I am trying to get into some new and exciting things outdoors. At the moment this goes as far as walking home from the pub. But it's a start. And fun none-the-less.
Finally, two more movies to add to the challenge:
#62 Contraband (2012)
At 10:30 this morning I went to a friend's house. Wondering what to do and what to have for breakfast, we decided to see what was on at the movies. By this stage it was 11am. Techie J says "Oooh there's a movie starting at 11. Let's go!" So off we went, with a borrowed hoody over my singlet and short shorts we sped off like bogans on a dirt road. We arrived at the Cinema in just enough time to explain that we wanted tickets to the movie that started 10 minutes ago, pick up our usually BFF deal and catch 4 ads before our movie. On the way there, my so called BFF explained the movie by calling it "Drugs in 60 seconds". And he was right. Crim turned good. Family member gets caught up in it. Good guy has to get in and clean up the brother's mess. It even had one of the same actors! The only differences - a lot less cars, more ships and more drugs and a lot less lips (that's an Angelina Jolie reference if you were wondering).

#63 Iron Lady
One I had to watch just so I could be part of conversations. But, the terrible lag, and the fact that I didn't really give a shit about the movie, the actors, the history, or the country, made it not very exciting. That and the fact that I was blogging for the most part of it. But, it's going on the list. It's eaten some time of my life I can't get back. It has to count for something.
